A Humble Beginning
AGCU was founded in 1951 after representatives from the Missouri Credit Union League met with leaders from the Assemblies of God to introduce the idea of a member-owned financial institution. Shortly after, employees from Gospel Publishing House and Central Bible Institute became some of the first members.
In those early years, the credit union operated from a single room with a simple mission: help members steward their resources wisely while providing affordable financial services built on trust and community.
As the Assemblies of God fellowship expanded, AGCU grew alongside it—serving ministers, missionaries, churches, educators, and families connected to the Assemblies of God network across the country.
Banking With a Purpose
At AGCU, banking has always been about more than transactions.
As a member-owned credit union, AGCU exists to serve people—not shareholders. Earnings are reinvested into better services, competitive products, and support for ministries and humanitarian efforts that align with the credit union’s mission and values.
In fact, AGCU donates 10% of annual earnings to support churches, scholarships, humanitarian projects, and ministry initiatives around the world. Over the past 15 years alone, AGCU has contributed more than $2.5 million toward Kingdom-focused impact.
