Scammers are getting more aggressive—and they’re targeting members of credit unions and banks with fake fraud alerts that look legitimate. Over the recent holiday weekend, nearly 100 AGCU members reported fraud attempts from scammers impersonating Assemblies of God Credit Union (AGCU). These fraudulent text messages claimed to be official “AGCU Alerts,” but their only goal was to steal your personal and banking information.
What Do These Scams Look Like?
Fraudsters send unsolicited text messages or emails pretending to be from AGCU. They may:
-
- Claim your account is locked, your debit card is blocked, or that there is suspicious activity.
-
- Urge you to click a link or call a phone number that looks official.
-
- Use the AGCU logo or language that seems legitimate to trick you.
These are classic phishing scams and bank impersonation scams.

⚠️ Important: AGCU will never send text messages asking you to click a link, call an unknown number, or provide your Online Banking username, password, Social Security number, or debit/credit card information.
Why You Should Never Click or Call
Clicking a fraudulent link or calling a fake number can expose you to:
-
- Identity theft – scammers may ask for your Social Security number, debit card info, or online banking login.
-
- Financial fraud – they may attempt unauthorized withdrawals or charges.
-
- Malware downloads – some links install harmful software on your device.
Even responding with a simple “yes” or pressing a button can confirm your number is active, leading to more scam attempts.
